Will and his neighbor Mia had been working for weeks on a song for Saturday's band competition, lt went well at first, but Will and Mia had been stuck on the ending.
“Hey, buddy!" Liam, Will's best friend grinned, “Ready for some hoops after school? I've been working on my jumper," He spun and shot an imaginary ball into the air.
Will's mind spun too.
Uh-oh. He'd forgotten all about basketball, He didn't want to bail( 失约)on Liam.but he was dying to try out the new ending. Maybe if he had a reason to skip..
“Hey, Liam," Will said, "| don't feel so great," He gave a small cough for effect."Another time?"
“Sure, no problem," Liam said, tilting his head to the side. “Feel better soon.OK?”
Will watched his friend dribble an invisible ball down the hallway.
“Perfect!" Mia strummed her guitar with a triumphant stroke(鱼拨) after they finished the ending.
"That sounded great, guys." Liam stood on Will's basement steps with his eyebrows raised.
Oh no. Busted(被逮个正着).“Thanks,” Will said, trying to think quickly.“It was weird.  came home and suddenly felt fine." He hoped his mind could keep up with his new lie. I would've met you at the court, but it was too late, And then Mia stopped by, and-”
“But Will. l didn't stop by. You called me,” Mia said, shaking her head.
“Yeah, right. I meant that I called to, uh, ask a homework question, and then.."
Will's voice trailed off, He coughed, but it sounded fake. “l can't remember how it went exactly, but I'm feeling better now."
“Well, that's good, l guess." Liam smiled, but it was forced. He tossed a small case onto the couch,“, brought you a movie since you were feeling rotten.” Will looked at the case, Will and Liam's favorite movie. His stomach knotted with guilt.
Before Will could think of something to say, Liam and Mia said goodbye. After Liam and Mia left, Will grabbed the movie and popped it in. In the movie, an evil guy tricked the protagonist(主人公)into giving up his power suit, but the protagonist figured him out in the end, saving the town and the evil guy whose little lie turned into a big mess! Will thought. Just like my lie with Liam.
