Liu's vision was simple yet powered spaces — like old construction outbuildings or empty hospital hallways — into green, productive areas where people could reconncct with nature and cach other. Despite facing initial resistance, Liu persisted, Today, his team has created over 1, 000 community gardens across China.
These gardens have become more than just green spaces — they are places where communitics come together. In 2022, during a garden project in Shanghai, locals got to know Uncle Ma, a bicycle repairman who had lived nearby for over adecade. Through working side by side in the garden, they Iearned about his life and even helped him find a new job when he faced unemployment. “This small garden showed the community's strength and care, "Liu recalls.
For Liu. these gardens are also a way to slow down in a fast-paced world.“Nature tells us we don't have to work relentlessly, ” he says. His goal is to create
