Concentration
Concentration is “the process of giving all your attention to something” according to Macmillan Dictionary. It means control of the attention. It is the ability to focus the mind on one subject, object or thought without being distracted, and at the same time, ignore other unrelated thoughts. It also means the ability to do one thing at a time, instead of jumping from one subject to another, and losing attention, time, and energy.
In fact, being able to concentrate the mind is crucial for success in every stage of study. This ability helps students avoid getting distracted, and saves them time and energy. Students need it for handling their daily affairs of study,for pursuing their goals, for developing new habits and abilities, and for gaining inner peace. A focused mind enables students to carry out everything faster and more efficiently. Meanwhile, focusing their attention on what they are doing enables them to avoid making mistakes.
However, students' ability to command the mind and control the attention is not common and requires training. A lot of kids have been diagnosed with the attention-related disorder, and many of them have other disorders that can affect their ability to concentrate in the classroom, from anxiety to depression. Some others don't know how to control their attention and focus their mind exclusively on one subject for any length of time. With that in mind, teachers should find some ways to help
young learners learn to focus and stay on task.
